Philippines Senator seeking to ban all online gaming

The Philippines senator has filed a bill, seeking to ban almost all online gambling in the country and impose severe penalties against those who engage in any online gambling activities.

The Anti-Online Gambling Act seeks to regulate the operation of POGO and e-Sabong industries in order to protect innocent families from being victimized by these illegal operations.

Licensed e-Sabong operations have already been put on hold following a series of unsolved disappearances earlier this year.

PAGCOR chief Alejandro Tengco warned last week that failure by POGO operators to address issues of kidnapping and human trafficking could see the entire POGO industry wound down.

The bill seeks to more closely regulate the placement of wagers, bets and other forms of gambling, online or otherwise. It also aims to prevent further degradation of the Filipino sense of morality and values, discourage workaholism among Filipinos, and help save lives.

Under the proposed law, corporations or their senior officers or employees who violate the anti-gambling regulation of the country will face fines of Php500,000 up to a maximum penalty of five years in prison. If passed, this will also repeal the authority of government to regulate online gambling and vice versa.
