Lim Kok Thay, the chairman of Genting is launching a brand-new cruise line from Singapore just four months after winding down Genting Hong Kong (formerly Star Cruises).
As we know, a few months back star cruise ship operators ran out of cash during the Covid-19 pandemic which upended the tourism industry.
Lim decided to relaunch his cruise line business less than two months after stepping down as chairman and CEO of Genting Hong Kong in late January when the company filed for liquidation.
In early March, Lim privately held investment firm Two Tree Holdings incorporated RW Cruises in Singapore to run cruise operations under the Resorts World Cruises brand out of the Southeast Asian financial hub, according to regulatory filings.
Lim’s new venture will be helmed by Michael Goh, the former Dream Cruises President. He fronted a press conference in Singapore on Wednesday, 18 May 2022.
Michael said that any passengers who have been unable to secure refunds on canceled World Dream bookings would be offered equal credit with the new cruise line.
“We started our cruise operations 30 years ago and we are excited to again launch the first Resorts World Cruises in Singapore, the first country to re-open cruising in the region,” Lim, executive chairman of Resorts World Cruises, said in a statement. “Resorts World Cruises will have its headquarters in Singapore and is committed to making Singapore the leading cruise hub in Asia.”
