ESL has announced that the LAN Dota Event will be taking place in the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands where twelve teams will compete
LAN Event Returns to Malaysia
ESL is bringing back its non-Dota Pro Circuit tournaments, hosting ESL One Malaysia 2022 this August once the regular season for the DPC ends.
The last time ESL hosted a LAN event was in 2018’s ESL One Genting where China’s squad Newbee defeated Team Liquid in an exciting grand finals series that went down to the line in game 5. ESL Genting 2018 featured 16 teams and was part of Dota Pro Circuit series’ minor event.
The tournament will be hosted like previous years at the Arena of Stars at Resorts World Genting from the 23rd of August to the 25th of August. Teams will be competing for their share of $400,000 in one of the first Major Dota LAN tournaments since the global pandemic in 2020 that hindered physical tournaments.
The most recent ESL LAN tournament hosted was earlier this year in May’s ESL Stockholm where OG came away with the win in a 3 – 1 series vs TSM
The event will use ESL’s standard bracket layout, starting with a round-robin group stage where the top eight teams will move on to the playoffs on Aug. 26. From there, things will run as the usual double-elimination, best-of-three contest, changing to a best-of-five for the grand finals.
As of yet, ESL has not yet release information as to how the qualifiers will be played. This is largely because the exact schedule for The International 11 has not yet been released and ESL is not sure if there will be any conflicting schedule.
We do know that there will be 7 teams receiving direct invitations to the event. Meanwhile the five remaining slots will be played out in a series of qualifiers across these regions:
- Europe / CIS
- Southeast Asia
- North America
- South America
