Elden Ring Smashes Expectations

One of the highest rated video game on release; Elden Ring launches with great press

Elden Ring is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware, it is another installation in what is now a very defined genre: The souls-like genre.

The genre was coined after the defining video game that laid out the blueprint for all souls-like game to come, which was Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3.

Games of these like are extremely difficult and requires skill from the players to defeat. The challenge was widely welcomed and received with infatuation from all gaming fans alike in the world which borne to the souls-like genre. There are more series that mimics the same magic such as Salt & Sanctuary, Bloodborne, Hollow Knight, all thematically heavy games.

A vast world where open fields with a variety of situations and huge dungeons with complex and three-dimensional designs are seamlessly connected. As you explore, the joy of discovering unknown and overwhelming threats await you, leading to a high sense of accomplishment.

To say that Elden Ring has met expectations would be an understatement. In the modern video game industry with studios overpromising and under-delivering, Elden Ring was a breathe of fresh air, receiving 9s and 10s from most review sites.

“Elden Ring” is a game about discovering and pushing the limits of possibility. It dares you, over and over, to keep pushing, making this unlike any other adventure I’ve experienced. It would be understatement to say “Elden Ring” has exceeded my expectations. After 40 hours — and with so much more to go — I don’t even know what I expect from it anymore. Its sheer scale is humbling. In terms of square footage, “Elden Ring” may not be the largest game ever made, but no other experience has made me feel quite as small.

Grandiose, mysterious, but now a touch more welcoming, Elden Ring tweaks the FromSoft formula to open up its world.

Even the gaming communities in forums such as reddit has high praises for the game. The tight-knit gaming community with close to 500 thousand members were formed as early as 2019 when the first Elden Ring trailer was shown on the E3 gaming conference.

A smashing commercial success and a landmark in the souls-like genre, fans remain excited for further innovation to the souls-like game formula which is still very much in its infancy.

Elden Ring is available on all major platforms, including PC, Playstation 4 & 5, as well as Xbox One & Series S/X.
